We have a number of roles available in our International Policy & Partnerships team. Our team leads on building close financial services partnerships abroad and on developing policy to support those cross-border relationships. Specially, we focus on relationships with the EU, EEA and Gibraltar, as well as the UK’s ambition for establishing new partnerships with Switzerland and Singapore.
The successful candidates will help develop a new paradigm for international financial services policy, based on the new tools the UK has as an independent country. The roles will need to be responsive to emerging priorities but are expected to focus on our relationships with Singapore and Switzerland, as well as delivering legislative reform.
The roles will provide the opportunity for thought leadership in using new tools and powers, designing and delivering strategies for new cross-border financial services regimes, and engaging with a cross-section of the industry. You will bring together policy analysis and expertise across financial services, trade and regulatory matters, advising senior officials and ministers on policy decisions, and leading external engagement with a varied range of partners both to inform and to influence.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Lead HMT’s financial services relationship with Singapore. Deliver the annual Financial Dialogue and negotiate new regulatory cooperation agreements.
- Lead development of substantive negotiation positions for a future UK-Switzerland financial services partnership. Drive work across teams and analyse options to translate objectives into clear positions.
- Lead the design and delivery of legislative reform packages in the area of cross border financial services.
- Build and maintain positive relationships. Work closely with UK regulators, industry, HMT sector leads and lawyers to develop and deliver policy.
- Support ministers and senior officials by providing advice and high-quality briefing. Provide support for Parliamentary business and, public communications as required.
- Contribute to the wider corporate objectives of the Department, by playing an active corporate role at team, Group and/or Departmental level.
